Hey all! Happy Tuesday! 😁

It does feel like it should be a little later in the week, like Wednesday, or maybe even early Thursday, don’t you agree? Time is so weird.

Oh yeah, I FINALLY REMEMBERED WHAT IT WAS I WANTED TO SHARE WITH YOU YESTERDAY, BUT COMPLETELY FORGOT WHAT IT WAS. 😅

It wasn’t really security related, but kinda sorta security adjacent. I think it borders a little bit on digital privacy, and how companies keep wanting to intrude on that. That said, behold this article I read yesterday from Engadget:

Roku looks into serving you ads on whatever you plug into its TVs

https://www.engadget.com/roku-looks-into-serving-you-ads-on-whatever-you-plug-into-its-tvs-120016754.html

For the tl;dr crowd: Roku is exploring ways to serve ads up to you REGARDLESS of what method you are watching content on its devices. It could be a cable box, a FireTV Stick, an AppleTV, doesn’t matter. If it’s connected to your Roku TV, it wants to show you ads. Granted, it only wants to show you ads when you have said content PAUSED, but this still really creeps me out a bit. We get enough ads from the various streaming services when we WATCH content, so do we REALLY need MORE ads when we pause the content, AND those ads are COMING FROM THE TV WE CONNECTED OUR DEVICES TO? What kind of mess is it going to make for services like Hulu or Peacock that already show ads when pausing their content? Are we going to have DOUBLE ads now? Are we going to have ads then you have to watch before you can even unpause the content to continue watching??

Where does it end??

I think that’s enough fun for today. Peace out!

OMG, I almost forgot what else I wanted to add! 🤦🏻‍♂️

Someone commented on my blog post yesterday over on LinkedIn, suggesting that I may have a book or a novel within me. My response?

You know, the thought of doing that very thing has crossed my mind a time or twelve in the past. My struggle is that I haven’t the faintest idea in the world as to what it would be about. 🙈

Okay, NOW that’s it.
