I’ve been seeing this become more and more frequent lately, and needs addressing…

It’s no surprise that we are living in an age where people want to post any- and everything on social media.

There’s nothing wrong with that at all. HOWEVER, make sure you obtain permission of people you may capture before posting on social media. Just like in the ‘olden’ days of photography, photographers had to get consent from their subjects before publishing their photos, usually in the form of a signed release.

Where am I going with this?

I’m addressing two main points here:

👉🏼 You could be held liable if you capture someone’s likeness and post it without their permission, especially if it paints them in a negative context, or causes unintended consequences

👉🏼 As rare as it might be, there are actually people who are not on social media, and prefer it that way. Posting them on social media (especially if you attach their name to it) has now given them a digital footprint on a medium they may never wanted to be on in the first place. That goes especially for minors (those under 18) who I believe cannot legally give consent to having their likeness published.

Please, think carefully and be more aware of your surroundings. Knowing is half the battle.
