Just Do the Damn Thing

This particular phrase REALLY jumped out at me when I read this on Amanda Scheldt’s “The Glam Techie” blog earlier today. Like me, she had been struggling for a number of years about what to post on her blog, life getting in the way, or whether to just let it die off.

Okay, she was struggling on a much larger scale than I. I never considered letting the blog just die off; I’ve been doing it in one form or another for well over a decade, and it’s become a part of my DNA at this point, much like my signature jump pose. 😊

It certainly should be no secret by now that I struggle to come up with ideas to blog and write about. If you don’t believe me, go ahead and check any of my social media, and you’ll see that I’m frequently complaining about it.

I think that’s why Amanda’s recent blog post struck me. She was coming back after several years, not so much with anything in particular in mind, but more to just ‘do the damn thing’; or, to pull a little-known quote, “just do it”. 😂

Believe it or not, there was a stretch of time where I posted something on my LinkedIn profile every single day. Yes, I said that right: EVERY SINGLE DAY. Even now, I have NO idea how I managed to find something to write about on a daily basis. I would just start writing, and things would just start coming out. Something occurs to me just now: I’m wondering if part of my issue is that in my job, I am working out in the field with customers nowhere near as often as I used to be when I was doing desktop support, where I would be out working with customers on the daily. Forcing myself to actually leave my desk and take a walk might be just what the doctor ordered. Maybe it will even give me what I need to actually find something to write about again every day! 🤔

Now to go put something on my calendar every day. Maybe I’ll even title it: “just do the damn thing”. 😅

  1. […] Yes, that has been a kind of mantra for me since I read Amanda’s blog post, which I wrote about here. […]
