Weekly Style Recap: Mar. 24-28, 2025

Hey everyone! Two weeks in a row! I’m on a roll now. 😜

A lot sure can happen in the span of a week, lemme tell ya. I was lucky enough to get registered for a couple of security-related conferences in May (EDUCAUSE Cybersecurity and Privacy Professionals) and June (RVASec), but sadly, an email was sent out from the President of the university telling all schools and departments to freeze spending funds, especially for “unnecessary travel”. I sadly wasn’t able to get registered for the SANS Security Awareness Summit in Chicago this August in time (MAJOR sad face), so I’ll be attending virtually. Definitely thankful that SANS offers it as an option, unlike a number of other conferences. Occasionally, I’ll wish I had the confidence and courage to talk in front of groups of strangers, so that I could submit talks to some of these conferences so that I could attend for free, but yeah, that’s not happening. 😂

In unrelated news, I’m really wanting to try and bring some of my security-related knowledge back to my blog. This IS “Secure, in Style” after all…

Probably (or hopefully) the biggest security-related thing you may have heard in the news is all about 23andMe. If you haven’t heard about it, here’s the TLDR version: 23andMe has filed for bankruptcy, and is looking for a new buyer. Normally, that wouldn’t be such a big deal, except for one huge thing: the data that they store is that of customer’s DNA and genetic data. In terms of how sensitive the data are, think of it as the highest of high sensitivity. Data about what makes you, YOU is what’s being stored. Needless to say, if you are a customer and they have your data (and also your saliva data), you REALLY should delete your data as soon as possible. Like, SOONER than possible. I mean, go back in time, and tell your past self to delete that data RIGHT FREAKING NOW. If you need help doing that, I posted a link to a video that walks through what you need to do. Go see it here:

Finally, here’s a look back at what I wore to work this week. I hope you enjoy them. Have a wonderful and safe weekend!
