A Little Update…

Hi all,

Yes, I am still alive. Things are, and have been, rather crazy for me, both personally and professionally. So much so, that I didn’t have the time or the inclination to post to my blog or social media.

While taking a break from the IT- and style-related blogging and social media, I had an “aha” moment. For quite some time now, I have wanted to get into the cyber/information security field in some form, but I simply did not know where I wanted to go.

While speaking with a co-worker one day, it suddenly dawned on me what I wanted to get into, but at the time, I didn’t even know if such a niche existed for me. So, what is it I wanted to do, you wonder? Well, what I want to do is be someone who can explain to the everyday (non-tech) person what’s going on in security. Not only what’s going on, but why it’s important. I want to be a “translator” of sorts to explain things about the industry that could be better and more easily understood.

From what I’ve been best able to determine, that particular niche that I want to get into would be “security education and awareness”.

This sounds like it is RIGHT up my alley, and exactly what I want to do. The downside, which my boss pointed out to me?

Public. Speaking.

Ughhhhhhhhhhhh.

I do not like it, Sam I Am. Introverts and public speaking do not mix.

Back to the point of this post. I want to start with baby steps. A post here and there to help try to raise awareness, and educate the non-tech about things related to cyber/information security. I may even try to answer questions from those who might read this to better help them understand. Ultimately, it’s in everyone’s best interest to be informed about security, how to protect yourself better, and how to potentially identify when you might be the target. It’s where my nifty blog catchphrase comes into play: “InfoSec for the non-tech”.

Rest assured, I still want to do posts of my personal style (which is why I started blogging in the first place, and also why this blog is called “Secure in STYLE”), but I’m likely to move to a weekly recap of what I wear for the week instead of a daily one. They were just getting too time-consuming.

So, I turn to you, techs and non-techs alike. What are things YOU would like to know more about? When you read or hear about “social engineering” or “security breach” in the news or social media, do all you see is, “SJKL:Ji;j3rp 8uefjpijajrej pfijoJ”? Let me know. I will do my best to translate for you, so that we all know how important security really is. And just like the old GI Joe quote goes, “knowing is half the battle”.

Yo Joe!
